The main risk is deleting a file you wanted, which is why every chapter begins with a backup reminder and recommends emptying the Bin last.

No. Nothing on this site is a program you install. We publish articles and a PDF/EPUB e-book, and we do not host or recommend any application. This site recommends no applications whatsoever, and we do not distribute any software. If a page you found elsewhere offers to fix your storage by installing something, treat it with suspicion.

It varies enormously. A Mac that has never been cleaned can release tens of gigabytes, mostly from duplicate photos, old installers and cached mail attachments. A Mac cleaned last month may only give back a few gigabytes. We deliberately do not promise a number.

System Data is a bucket containing caches, logs, iOS backups, swap files and Time Machine local snapshots. It can shrink by several gigabytes when you clear caches and iOS backups, but macOS rebuilds much of it, so treat it as maintenance rather than a permanent fix.

Yes, when you have a verified backup elsewhere, ideally on an external drive. A snapshot on the same disk is not a real backup, so removing it costs you only the ability to roll back changes from the last day. Never thin snapshots if the internal disk holds the only copy of your data.

No. Offloading leaves a small placeholder on the Mac and keeps the full file in iCloud, where it is fetched on demand. Deleting the placeholder, however, removes the cloud copy too, which is the most common way people lose offloaded files by accident.

Not always, but they ask for broad disk access to do work you can do yourself, and aggressive deletion can break apps in ways that surface later. Our chapter on the subject explains the trade-offs and how to recognise misleading offers.
